Using capital effectively to reduce poverty
Buon Don is a border district with many economic difficulties and challenges, a high poverty rate, especially among ethnic minorities.
Recently, the People's Committee of Buon Don district (Dak Lak) has widely implemented the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction.
In particular, the Steering Committee of the national target program on sustainable poverty reduction has been strengthened from district to commune, village and hamlet levels.
After the Steering Committee was promptly reorganized, this unit immediately got to work, removing difficulties and obstacles in the process of implementing the poverty reduction program in the district.
Leaders of Buon Don district determined to take advantage of resources from the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction to make investments, support people to escape poverty, and develop the local economy.
With the efforts of authorities at all levels, in recent times, poverty reduction work in Buon Don district has achieved many remarkable results.
Up to now, the work of allocating, implementing and disbursing the 2024 plan for the program has also been carried out urgently. In 2024, Buon Don district was allocated 9,140 million VND to implement the program.
Of which, 500 million VND is counterpart capital from the provincial budget; the transferred capital for 2022 is 2,455 million VND; the transferred capital for 2023 is 6,376 million VND.
Up to now, the transferred capital of 2022 has disbursed 325.43 million VND; the transferred capital of 2023 has disbursed 914.08 million VND and the capital assigned in 2024 has disbursed 46.62 million VND.
As a result, in the first 9 months of 2024, the poverty rate in Buon Don district decreased by over 3%; the poverty rate of ethnic minority households decreased by 3%; the rate of trained workers reached 43%; the number of employed workers, the number of newly employed people was 690 people, reaching 72.63% of the target assigned by the Resolution of the District People's Council.
Ensure the program reaches the right audience
Thanks to consistent and synchronous implementation, the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in Buon Don district has reached the right beneficiaries.
In the first 9 months of 2024, Buon Don District People's Committee supported 7,345 preschool children from poor and near-poor households with a total implementation cost of over 7 billion VND; supported tuition fees for 44,953 students from poor and near-poor households with a total cost of over 12 billion VND.
The policy of supporting food and tuition fees for preschool children from poor and near-poor households, and supporting tuition fees for students from poor and near-poor households has brought about practical results.
Through evaluation, this activity has created favorable conditions for children to go to school, study at vocational schools, universities... as a basis for future development.
To date, 100% of poor and near-poor households have been granted health insurance cards in the first month of 2024. Medical examination and treatment for the poor has been carried out at all commune-level health stations; the health sector has also supported medical examination and treatment costs for the poor, ethnic minorities, and social protection beneficiaries...
According to Mr. Y Si That Ksor - Vice Chairman of Buon Don District People's Committee, the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction has created conditions for poor and near-poor households in the district to access preferential policies of the State.
The program has helped many poor people have the opportunity to study, thereby improving their skills and creating some jobs on the spot. From there, people can increase their income for themselves and their families, contributing to stabilizing their lives.
