Quang Binh - A crack about 50cm wide, 100m long, with a rock block weighing about 300 tons in Phong Nha town, is at very high risk of landslides.

On October 12, news from the People's Committee of Quang Binh province, Vice Chairman of the province Doan Ngoc Lam has just signed a decision to announce an emergency situation regarding the landslide disaster in Xuan Tien residential group (Phong Nha town, Bo Trach district).

Accordingly, the rocky mountain area in Xuan Tien residential group has rugged terrain, complex geological structure with many cracks.

Under the impact of rain, floods and changes in temperature and weather, since the end of September 2024, a large crack has appeared in this area with a high risk of landslides.

The location of the broken rock is about 17m from the headquarters of Tax Team No. 2, about 50m above ground level, 30m from the Phong Nha Tourism Center apartment complex and about 50m from Provincial Road 562.

The current crack is about 50cm wide, 100m long, the rock mass weighs about 300 tons and is at very high risk of landslide.

In case of a landslide, this will directly affect 8 households and agencies and units in the area; at the same time, it will affect traffic and tourism activities on Provincial Road 562. Therefore, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province has directed urgent measures to respond to prevent and minimize damage caused by the landslide.

The Provincial People's Committee requested Bo Trach district to closely monitor weather developments, develop plans and organize the relocation and evacuation of households in affected areas to safe places.

Put up danger warning signs, arrange permanent forces to warn and guide people and vehicles to ensure safety; increase communication information so that people know about the risk of landslides and proactively prevent safety.

The Provincial Military Command was assigned to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committee of Bo Trach district to send forces and vehicles to survey and handle the landslide in Phong Nha town, and complete the handling before October 15, ensuring absolute safety for people and surrounding property.
