Currently, nationwide, there are 2 provinces that have merged provincial press agencies, including Quang Ninh.
Quang Ninh Media Center came into operation from January 1, 2019 on the basis of merging agencies including: Quang Ninh Newspaper, Quang Ninh Radio - Television Station, Ha Long Newspaper (under the Quang Ninh Provincial Literature and Arts Association), Quang Ninh Electronic Information Portal (under the Office of the National Assembly Delegation - People's Council - Provincial People's Committee).
After the merger, Quang Ninh Media Center is under the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee. This is the first provincial-level Media Center in the country established to operate under the Press Law and the National Press Plan to develop the province's information, propaganda and press career; effectively implement the "Converged Newsroom" model; build an integrated and developed Quang Ninh provincial press system.
From 22 department-level focal points, after the merger, the Media Center has been reduced to 14 focal points, clearly defining the tasks of each department. To ensure the quality of press products and create breakthroughs in information on channels and publications, the Quang Ninh Media Center has implemented projects to improve the quality of program content, both meeting the public's information needs and ensuring the best implementation of the political tasks of the provincial press agency, while affirming the Center's position in cooperative relationships with prestigious domestic and foreign media partners.
Currently, Quang Ninh Media Center maintains stable media channels on all 4 types of press: television, radio, print newspaper, electronic newspaper, including: 2 television channels QTV1, QTV3; 2 radio channels QNR1, QNR2; daily Quang Ninh print newspaper, Quang Ninh Weekend newspaper, Ha Long newspaper, Hoa Sen special issue; Quang Ninh electronic newspaper; specialized pages, fanpage pages and operating the Quang Ninh province's electronic information portal.
According to journalist Nguyen The Lam - Director of Quang Ninh Provincial Media Center, the total number of employees of this unit is currently about 250 people, while at the time of the merger, Quang Ninh Media Center had nearly 300 people, of which Quang Ninh Newspaper had 80 employees; Quang Ninh Radio and Television Station had over 200 staff, reporters, announcers, technicians, etc.
Next, Quang Ninh also merged all district-level Radio and Television Stations with district-level Cultural and Sports Centers to form Media and Cultural Centers.
After Quang Ninh, on October 28, 2019, Binh Phuoc province also merged Binh Phuoc Newspaper and Binh Phuoc Radio and Television Station into Binh Phuoc Radio - Television Station and Newspaper, under the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province.
