Arrange and merge 13 commune-level administrative units
On August 12, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province confirmed that at the end of July 2024, the province issued a project to arrange district and commune-level administrative units for the period 2023-2025.
Accordingly, at this stage, Quang Tri province will arrange 13 commune-level administrative units. During the arrangement process, Quang Tri province consulted, the results showed that the majority of voters agreed with the proposed arrangement plan.
Like the arrangement to merge Linh Hai commune and Gio Son commune (Gio Linh district) into Gio Son commune, voters agreed with more than 99%. Arranging to merge Ha Thanh village, Gio Chau commune into Gio Quang commune (Gio Linh district), the poll results showed that more than 80% of voters agreed.
Similarly, the arrangement of merging Ha Thuong and Ha Trung villages of Gio Chau commune into Gio Linh town (Gio Linh district) had more than 80% approval among voters. The arrangement of merging Trieu Son commune and Trieu Lang commune into Trieu Co commune (Trieu Phong district) also received the approval of voters, when the opinion poll results showed more than 90% of voters agreed...
Due to specific factors, Quang Tri province agreed not to make arrangements for 8 communes, wards and towns in the period 2023 - 2025.
Quang Tri town and Con Co island have not been arranged
According to Mr. Ngo Quang Chien - Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Tri province, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province has developed a project to arrange district and commune-level administrative units for the period 2023 - 2025 to submit to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Currently, the project has been appraised by the Central Appraisal Council to submit to the Government for consideration and to the National Assembly Standing Committee.
According to the project, for district-level administrative units, Quang Tri province has 2 units that must be rearranged for the period 2023 - 2025: Con Co island district and Quang Tri town, because the above 2 units have their own area. However, the population size does not meet the prescribed standards.
However, Quang Tri province proposed not to make arrangements for these two units because of specific factors such as historical traditions, geographical location, natural conditions, residential communities, and requirements to ensure national defense. , security, social order and safety and socio-economic development.
Like Quang Tri town, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province proposed to consider moving Quang Tri town to be arranged in the period after 2030 at the same time as establishing Hai Lang town according to the Provincial Plan approved by the Prime Minister. .
The reason for the proposed arrangement in the later stage is because Quang Tri town has specific elements in its history of formation, history of revolutionary traditions, especially the relics of Quang Tri Ancient Citadel which have been recognized as a relic. National revolutionary history is especially important. This place has become a traditional meeting place for all generations of veterans, officers, soldiers and people from all over the country with hundreds of thousands of people visiting every year. Therefore, arrangements for Quang Tri town face difficulties.
“Quang Tri province has determined and tried to develop many arrangements for Quang Tri town, but all of the plans do not guarantee feasibility. Therefore, it is proposed to move to the next stage of arrangement with the establishment of Hai Lang town according to the provincial planning" - Mr. Ngo Quang Chien said.
During the period 2019-2021, Quang Tri province will arrange 24 communes and towns. After the arrangement, this province has 125 communes, a reduction of 16 communes and the arrangement and reduction of nearly 500 commune-level officials and civil servants who are redundant after the arrangement.
