On December 12, a representative of Project Management Board 2, Ministry of Transport, said that the unit is directing construction contractors to urgently fix the landslide.
On the other hand, the work of dredging floodwaters on National Highway 19 through An Khe Pass was also carried out to ensure traffic safety for people and vehicles.
Continuous heavy rains in recent days have caused the soil and rocks on both sides of the hillside along An Khe pass, where the embankment is being constructed, to become waterlogged.
Then, a large amount of rock and soil slid down the main National Highway 19 connecting Gia Lai and Binh Dinh. In many sections, the rainwater could not drain away in time, causing some sections of the road to become rivers.
According to authorities, the landslide occurred at around 3am this morning. Currently, many vehicles, drivers and people are still stuck for many kilometers at An Khe Pass due to heavy rain.
Traffic is congested, construction units' excavators and trucks cannot move to the top of the pass to clear the rocks and soil.
"Workers mainly mobilized on-site equipment to try to fix the problem, trying to clear the flooded area as soon as possible" - representative of Project Management Board 2 informed.
According to records, at the scene, hundreds of people stood on National Highway 19, anxiously waiting for the route to be cleared.
Mr. Nguyen Lanh - a truck driver transporting goods - was upset: "For more than 3 years, traveling through National Highway 19 through An Khe Pass has been very miserable, often causing subsidence and congestion. The construction unit needs to dump soil and rock at the designated disposal site and blast on time."
Construction is carried out in a rolling manner to minimize landslides, flooding caused by rainwater, and danger to people's safety and lives, as well as traffic safety.
The National Highway 19 renovation and upgrade project helps strengthen connectivity between the Central Highlands and South Central provinces.
The project is nearly 230km long with a total investment of about 155.8 million USD (more than 3,600 billion VND). The project is scheduled to start construction at the end of August 2021.
