On the morning of June 9, at Km119 National Highway 279, passing through Duong Quy commune (Lao Cai province), a large amount of soil and rock from the positive taluy suddenly spilled onto the road after a heavy rain lasting for many hours.
According to records, the volume of landslide soil and rock is estimated at more than 15m3, covering a part of the road surface, causing traffic through the area to be disrupted and posing a potential safety risk for people and vehicles traveling.
Immediately after the incident occurred, Duong Quy Commune People's Committee sent forces to the scene, organized the installation of warning signs, traffic diversion and mobilized motorized vehicles to overcome it. The locality mobilized 1 excavator, 1 bulldozer and a truck transporting soil and rocks to participate in clearing the scene.

By noon of the same day, the landslide point was basically treated, the road surface was cleaned, and vehicles could resume traffic.
However, the incident once again shows that the risk of landslides is always present on National Highway 279 during the rainy and flood season.
This is an important traffic route connecting many highland localities of Lao Cai province, often affected by heavy rain, causing positive taluy landslides, soil and rocks overflowing onto the road surface and posing a potential risk of traffic unsafety.

Before the weather diễn biến is forecast to be still complicated in the coming days, local authorities are continuing to review key points along the route, strengthening monitoring of areas at high risk of landslides to promptly handle them.
At the same time, it is recommended that people and vehicles limit movement during heavy rain, proactively observe and comply with the instructions of functional forces when traveling through hilly areas.
