According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, the heavy rain that occurred around 4pm to 6pm on April 12 caused the Dien Bien Provincial Stadium area to be flooded 40-70cm deep.

Not only the surface of the main yard, the training center area inside the stadium is also heavily flooded. It is known that local flooding in the Dien Bien Provincial Stadium area has existed for many years.

Roads around the area are also deeply submerged in water. The movement of vehicles encountered many difficulties, many people were forced to turn around and find other alternative routes.
In particular, on Truong Chinh Street, rising water levels caused some cars to stall and had to be called for rescue.

However, what makes the public interested is that there have been projects to renovate, repair and prevent flooding, but the flooding situation has not improved.
Talking by phone with Lao Dong about this issue, Mr. Do Ngoc Tu - Head of the Urban Management Department, Dien Bien Phu City said that the Dien Bien Provincial Stadium is managed by the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism.
The stadium's foundation is lower than the current road surface around, and when it rains heavily, drainage cannot be guaranteed in time.

Mr. Do Ngoc Tu said that the intensity of heavy and prolonged rain has exceeded the load-bearing capacity of the existing drainage system.
In addition, garbage and leaves are often covered, blocking the mouths of manholes and drainage culverts, making it impossible for water to drain away quickly during heavy rains.

According to the reporter's research, the project to install a drainage system with a culvert system with a diameter of 1m, buried 3.5m deep with a total length of 650m connecting the stadium area to the Nam Rom river has been completed.
This project has a total investment of 12.7 billion VND, which is expected to help reduce the risk of localized flooding in the stadium area.
