On September 29, informing reporters, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Quang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Viet Vinh commune - said that on National Highway 2, section Km52 of Ha Giang - Tuyen Quang road through the commune, a serious landslide had just occurred.
"The landslide occurred around 10am this morning, injuring 10 people, one person is missing - still not found. Highway 2 was buried by rocks and soil for about 300m," the commune leader informed.
According to a resident living near the landslide, at least four houses along the road were buried. When signs of the landslide were discovered, many cars stopped and people in the cars quickly left the scene, thus minimizing casualties.
The initial cause was determined to be due to prolonged heavy rains in the past, causing soil and rocks in the area to lose their cohesion and flow down. The landslide is also causing local traffic congestion in both directions on National Highway 2.
Upon receiving the information, the authorities arrived at the scene, dug up the ground, broke down the walls to rescue some trapped people and organized a search for buried victims. The passenger bus and pickup truck were removed from the scene.
