According to the Propaganda Department of the Ben Cat City Party Committee, the initial cause was determined to be two consecutive days of heavy rain in Chanh Phu Hoa Ward. This area has uneven terrain, deep holes, and a lot of water flowing from above. The flowing water caused landslides and erosion, affecting the road structure and causing subsidence.

In addition, the authorities directed relevant units to develop immediate remedial plans. At the same time, they directly visited, encouraged and supported the victims' families.
