Landslide is over, leave it there.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh (in Ninh Chai hamlet, Ninh Quoi A commune, Hong Dan district) said: The concrete road damaged by landslides has not been repaired yet, so the travel and trading of people in this area has been greatly affected. Every day, students have difficulty traveling. Everyone hopes that the authorities will soon repair the road for convenient traffic.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (Ninh Tien hamlet) said that right after the subsidence occurred, his family lent the land in front of his house so that people in the hamlet could temporarily travel. However, it has been almost a year since the road has been repaired, so everyone is looking forward to it. "Currently, everyone can clearly see that traveling is very difficult, when it rains, it becomes muddy, especially for students," said Mr. Hung.
Mr. Tran Van Du, residing in Ta Ben hamlet, Ninh Hoa commune (Hong Dan district, Bac Lieu province), shared that the subsidence and landslide in front of his house has not been repaired yet, and his family is still lending the land in front of his house for people to use. He said that during the dry season last year, the concrete road in front of his house showed no signs of abnormality, but it had seriously subsided, causing road cuts and making it difficult for people to travel.

"The road is more than 3km long, and has just been inaugurated not long ago. The local people have not yet recovered from their joy when they have witnessed subsidence, difficulty in traveling, and traffic disruption. Now everyone wants the road to be repaired quickly to facilitate travel. Currently, the landslide sections have been reinforced and temporary roads have been built so that people can travel, but in the long term, new roads need to be rebuilt," said Mr. Du.

According to the People's Committee of Hong Dan district, from April 5, 2024 to May 29, 2024, due to the impact of prolonged drought and deep saltwater intrusion in the district, the district's stable freshwater area was dry, the water level in rivers and canals dropped, causing landslides on canal banks, subsidence of traffic routes and houses in Ngan Dua town and Ninh Quoi, Ninh Quoi A and Ninh Hoa communes. The total length of the landslides was 3,460 m, of which the subsidence of car routes was about 2 km; causing damage to 5 houses of the people.
Directing forever, but not seeing any action
After the landslides and subsidence occurred, the district directed specialized agencies to coordinate with the locality to promptly remedy the situation: initially, stable housing was provided for 5 households, and landslide sections were basically repaired with many solutions. The subsidence section of about 2 km was only temporarily repaired because resources could not be balanced.
Inspecting landslides in Hong Dan district, the Secretary of Bac Lieu Provincial Party Committee directed immediate and timely repairs so that people can have a road. Allocate capital for Hong Dan district to repair; research and build roads to minimize landslides and land subsidence.

Although the Provincial Party Secretary directed the issue since July 2024, the problem has not been resolved yet.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chien - Vice Chairman of Hong Dan District People's Committee - said that in order to promptly overcome landslides and subsidence and stabilize people's lives, the District People's Committee reported and proposed that the provincial functional departments soon submit to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration of supporting capital for the district to overcome landslides and subsidence to stabilize people's lives in the affected areas. Up to now, the district has been allocated capital and will soon implement the restoration of affected locations in the near future.
