As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, while constructing a project to add a drainage system and renovate the road surface to solve the flooding problem when heavy rains occurred in the area of Lane 167 Tay Son, Quang Trung Ward, Dong Da District, workers discovered over 150 sets of remains. According to initial verification, these are the remains of local people and were about 50-70 years old.
After discovering the incident, local authorities requested the units to temporarily stop construction, erect barriers, put up blockades, and carefully fence off to ensure safety for people traveling in the alley.
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan (residing in lane 167 Tay Son), his family has lived here for nearly 50 years and has witnessed many times when households and agencies dig house foundations; or when road construction units, underground cables, dig electric poles, sewers, etc. discover ceramic urns containing remains.
According to Mr. Tuan, previously when building the road and drainage system in lane 167, hundreds of ceramic urns containing remains were discovered, and the construction unit took them to another place to bury them.
"This place used to be a cemetery, a place to collect graves of the city, so there are many ceramic urns underneath," Mr. Tuan added.
Regarding the handling of the above-mentioned ceramic urns, Mr. Vu Xuan Dung - Vice Chairman of Quang Trung Ward People's Committee said that the Ward People's Committee has reported to Dong Da District and has issued a notice to find relatives, but so far no one has contacted to find the grave. "Currently, the investor and the Ward People's Committee have signed a contract with the city funeral committee to move all the remains to Yen Ky cemetery," said Mr. Dung.
