The Hanoi Department of Transport has just released a preliminary assessment report on the pilot plan for traffic organization at the Nguyen Trai - Khuat Duy Tien intersection (Thanh Xuan intersection).
According to the assessment of the Hanoi Department of Transport, Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Xien Street in both directions has an elevated access road to Ring Road 3, creating bottlenecks, significantly affecting the traffic capacity of the intersection.
Traffic volume through Thanh Xuan intersection is always very high even during the city’s off-peak hours. Traffic congestion, especially during rush hour, occurs frequently.
Regarding the pilot plan, the authorities have added a central island to eliminate traffic conflicts; added signs and road markings suitable for the new form of traffic organization; controlled traffic lights in 2 phases combining the "early cut - late open" mode to form a primary and secondary control mechanism.
Authorities also set up a camera system to handle traffic safety violations and cameras to collect traffic flow to adjust traffic light cycles.
According to a report from the Hanoi Department of Transport, after traffic reorganization, Thanh Xuan intersection is more orderly, reducing potential conflicts and delay time for vehicles entering the intersection.
According to this agency, due to the large number of vehicles participating in traffic on the routes leading to the intersection, congestion may occur outside the intersection. It is necessary to continue to monitor, research, and supplement remote traffic organization plans and continue to research and adjust the cycle and green light time at adjacent intersections to create more smooth control.
On the morning of January 18, the Hanoi Department of Transport piloted traffic organization adjustment through Thanh Xuan intersection to limit congestion as well as ensure traffic safety and order. However, according to the reporter's records at that time, the congestion situation on many roads around Thanh Xuan intersection such as Nguyen Xien and Khuat Duy Tien has not really improved, and at times there is even serious congestion.
