On September 8, many people received a thank you letter from the Department of Construction of Can Tho City after sending their opinions and initiatives to prevent flooding according to the call of Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Van Lau.

In the letter, the Department of Construction said that in recent years, flooding in the city center has tended to increase in intensity and scope, especially during the rainy and stormy season and high tides. Flooding not only directly affects people's lives but also affects the socio-economic development of the city.
The city has been implementing many solutions and initially brought about efficiency in some inner-city areas. However, to find the cause and completely resolve it, the government hopes to continue to listen to and absorb ideas and solutions from people, organizations, experts and scientists.
According to Mr. Mai Van Tan - Director of the Department of Construction of Can Tho City, implementing the direction of the Chairman of the City People's Committee, the Department has sent a letter of thanks to all scientists and people for their initiatives and solutions to prevent flooding in the city. Currently, the unit is synthesizing, classifying, analyzing and evaluating highly feasible ideas to advise the research consulting unit in the city's flood prevention project. If the initiative is applied effectively, innovatively and creatively, the Department of Construction will coordinate with relevant agencies to propose the City People's Committee to consider rewarding according to regulations.

Previously, to solve the flooding problem in Can Tho City during high tides and heavy rains, Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Van Lau called on cadres to boldly propose and take drastic actions to solve the flooding problem. He announced that he would award 50 million VND, award an unexpected certificate of merit and consider planning at a higher position for any cadre who came up with an effective idea to help the city fight flooding and limit flooding in the next few rains.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City also assigned the Department of Construction to be the focal point to receive information, ideas, and solutions to prevent flooding from people and organizations to synthesize, evaluate, and advise the City People's Committee to choose feasible solutions. At the same time, coordinate with the Department of Home Affairs to reward organizations and individuals with initiatives and solutions to prevent flooding in accordance with regulations.
