Soc Trang leads the Mekong Delta region in PAPI index

Soc Trang has the highest Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI) among provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region.

On October 4, the Executive Committee of the 14th Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee, term 2020 - 2025, held the 33rd Conference to assess the socio-economic situation, national defense, security, and political system building in the first 9 months of 2024, and discuss and propose directions and tasks for the last 3 months of 2024.

According to the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee, in the first 9 months of 2024, the economic growth rate is estimated to reach 6.55%, ranking 5th in the Mekong Delta region. The Public Administration Performance Index (PAPI) is in the highest group, ranked 4th out of 61 provinces and cities nationwide (up 20 places), ranked 1st among provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region; The Green Index (PGI) ranked 23rd out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide (up 33 places), ranked 9th out of 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region (up 1 place).

The whole province has planted 337,874 hectares of rice, with an output of about 2.15 million tons, up nearly 5.1% over the same period. The export value of goods reached 1 billion 345 million USD. Of which, seafood export reached 750 million USD (up 10.7%); rice export reached 510 million USD (up 51.6%). The total number of tourists was about 2.4 million, up 13% over the same period, total revenue from tourism reached nearly 1,323 billion VND, up 20% over the same period.

However, there are still some difficulties and limitations, such as the damaged shrimp farming area accounts for 5.1% of the farming area (the same period in 2023 was 4.1%); climate change, natural disasters, and riverbank erosion are complicated, negatively affecting production and people's lives.

The progress of implementing projects, promoting and calling for investment is still slow. By September 30, 2024, the disbursement rate of public investment capital reached 48.3%, lower than the same period (the same period in 2023 reached 53.5%).

Production and business activities of enterprises are still difficult; the number of enterprises registering to temporarily suspend operations increased compared to the same period.

Concluding the conference, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee Lam Van Man requested relevant units to seriously and drastically implement solutions to disburse public investment capital to reach 95% of the capital plan assigned according to the Government's direction; speed up the progress of key projects and works that have a great impact on the socio-economic development of the locality and the province.

The Secretary of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee emphasized that it is necessary to assign specific tasks and assign responsibility for monitoring progress to promptly resolve arising problems.
