Accidents lurking around a series of slow-progressing traffic projects in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City - The construction of roads in Ho Chi Minh City contributes to promoting traffic infrastructure. However, prolonged construction poses many risks of accidents.

Accident lurking at Ring Road 3 project in Ho Chi Minh City

Recorded at the Tan Van intersection project (Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project, section through Dong Hoa ward), the traffic situation is quite complicated.

Every day, this area has a large volume of traffic. Meanwhile, the road surface is bumpy at many points, potholes appear, dust, and visibility is limited.

Trucks and container trucks moving close to the roadside are very prone to accidents with motorbikes. At night, temporary roads of the project lack lights, and intersections are complex and dangerous.

During peak hours, workers returning from work pass through here in large numbers. Motorbikes have to move mixed with heavy trucks, posing many risks of collision. According to records, in just about 1 month, there have been 3 accidents here, killing 3 people.

Dong Hoa Ward People's Committee said that it has proposed to relevant units to implement many solutions to ensure traffic safety here. At the same time, assign forces to guide traffic during peak hours.

Similarly, on My Phuoc - Tan Van road section passing through the Binh Chuan intersection project (Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project, Thuan Giao ward), traffic also poses a potential risk of unsafety.

In the direction from Thu Dau Mot ward to An Phu ward, two-wheeled vehicles are guided to move into the bypass road separate from cars. However, many motorbikes still enter the bypass road for cars. Here, the bypass road has two lanes, the road surface is not flat, so accidents are very likely to occur. On August 1, the man driving the motorbike entered the bypass road and then had an accident with a container truck. As a result, the man died at the scene.

Potential accidents at delayed construction sites

The project to expand National Highway 13 (nearly 15km long from Vinh Binh bridge to Le Hong Phong intersection) is being implemented to improve traffic capacity at the northern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City. However, the construction process makes people worried that it will increase the risk of accidents.

According to records, after more than 4 years of implementation, the project has now reached about 80% of the construction volume. The road has been expanded from 6 to 8 lanes. However, the lanes for both directions have not been re-divided. Currently, the direction from Binh Duong to the center of Ho Chi Minh City has only 3 lanes, and the opposite side has 5 lanes.

In the morning, a large volume of vehicles pouring into the center of Ho Chi Minh City causes traffic jams during rush hours. Meanwhile, on the construction site side, the gathering of materials and vehicles spilling onto the road also threatens safety.

According to assessments, the project's obstacle is the prolonged site clearance and power grid relocation process. According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, to date, the project's site is sufficient for construction. The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has established a working group to resolve project obstacles. Currently, the Department of Construction is coordinating with departments and branches to implement tasks to ensure progress according to the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.

Similarly, the DT 744 road expansion project (section through Phu An ward, Tay Nam ward) is also in a state of slow progress, prolonging construction time. After more than 3 years of implementation, the project is still unfinished, the road section through Tay Nam ward has many potholes. The road potentially poses many risks of accidents at intersections and areas near An Tay market.

According to records, the bottleneck of the project is the prolonged progress of site clearance. Currently, Phu An and Tay Nam Ward People's Committees are promoting the mobilization of people to agree to hand over the site for project construction.
