On the morning of December 9, the leader of Tam Xuan commune (Da Nang city) confirmed that a particularly serious traffic accident had just occurred on the Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressway through Bich Ngo village, causing 13 casualties.
According to initial information, at 4:12 a.m. the same day, at Km71+200, a 16-seat passenger car with license plate 29B-081.62 collided strongly with a tractor-trailer with license plate 15C-360.35, pulling a trailer 15R-149.06 driven by driver Bui Manh Thang (born in 1982, residing in Hai Phong).
The accident caused 3 passengers to die on the spot, 10 people to be injured; many vehicles were severely damaged. "The collision was very loud, when we ran out, the front of the bus was almost completely deformed," said a resident living near the scene.
Doctor Nguyen Ngoc Van Khoa, Deputy Director in charge of Quang Nam General Hospital, said that the hospital had received 9 victims, of which 3 were seriously injured. Severe-injured patients are being prioritized for surgery and intensive resuscitation, said Mr. Khoa.
The authorities have blocked off, examined the scene and investigated the cause of the incident. A representative of the Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Management Board said that they are coordinating to provide monitoring data to support the work to clarify the cause of the collision.
