On July 15, information from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thanh Hoa province said that from June 21, 2025 to now, the People's Committees of communes and Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited have collected and destroyed 117 dead pigs on canals and ditches.

According to the representative of the Thanh Hoa Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, after the above situation occurred, the unit sent officers directly to the scene to collect samples for the work of determining the cause of the pig deaths. However, most of the samples were severely decomposed, and the pathogens could not be determined.
For dead pigs, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine has coordinated with local authorities to collect and destroy them in the right place to ensure disease prevention and control.
Mr. Khuong Ba Luan - General Director of Song Chu One Member Co., Ltd. - said that through verification, there has been a situation where some people deliberately choose deserted canals with few people passing by to dump pigs and do not report to local authorities. This raises many concerns about environmental sanitation and epidemic safety.
To proactively prevent, detect and promptly handle cases of dumping dead animals into the environment, in order to protect water resources and prevent the spread of epidemics, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thanh Hoa has requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of communes, wards, Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited and units under the Department to urgently implement measures to prevent and control epidemics.

Mobilize livestock farmers who discover sick or dead animals to report to local authorities for timely destruction and handling, absolutely do not throw animal carcasses into the environment (such as rivers, reservoirs, canals, ditches, fields, etc.) that spread epidemics and cause environmental pollution. At the same time, propagate to make people understand that this behavior is a violation of the law and will be strictly handled according to regulations.
Direct the Commune and Ward Police and local authorities to strengthen management, promptly detect and strictly handle cases of intentional dumping of animal carcasses into the environment in violation of regulations.
