Government Inspectorate works at Coast Guard Region 4 on coordination against IUU

The delegation went to work at the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 to evaluate the results of coordination in monitoring and handling IUU violations against fishing vessels in An Giang province.

On November 29, the Government Inspection Team led by Mr. Hoang Van Ha, Deputy Director of Department VIII, Government Inspectorate, visited the Command (BTL) of Coast Guard Region 4 to assess the results of coordination in monitoring and handling violations of illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing vessels in An Giang province.

Colonel Nguyen Van Tranh, Deputy Commander of the Law Command of Coast Guard Region 4 chaired the working session with the Group. Participating in the meeting were representatives of the authorities of the Command of Coast Guard Region 4, representatives of the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control/Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province.

The report at the working session of the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 stated: From 2019 to now, the unit has seriously, promptly and effectively implemented the above resolutions, directives, plans, directives, legal documents, and regulations on IUU fishing prevention and control. Timely apply and effectively implement newly issued legal documents; closely coordinate and cooperate with competent authorities and local authorities of An Giang province in preventing and combating IUU fishing. The process of performing tasks must ensure absolute safety, without complaints or denunciations.

Notably, from July 2021 to present, the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 has presided over and coordinated the deployment of 25 campaigns with nearly 300 ships carrying out the task of combating IUU fishing in the Southwest sea. Regularly monitor the signal of the fishing vessel's journey monitoring device to urge and remind the vessel owner and captain to maintain the device in operation, not to lose connection.

Coordinate with relevant agencies and local coastal authorities of An Giang province to organize 45 concentrated propaganda campaigns for over 25,700 cadres and people, distributing tens of thousands of leaflets and propaganda documents. The patrol and control process at sea has combined with propaganda for nearly 16,400 fishing vessels/142,000 fishermen, providing nearly 142,000 leaflets, propaganda documents...

The Regional Command has coordinated with An Giang province in implementing the work of combating IUU fishing, strictly handling violating fishing vessels, contributing to preventing serious IUU violations at sea, not allowing fishing vessels to violate foreign waters.

After listening to the report on the results of monitoring the implementation of the law in the fisheries sector on combating IUU fishing and conducting field inspections at a number of functional agencies and units of the Command of the Region, Mr. Hoang Van Ha, Head of the Inspection Team, acknowledged and highly appreciated the results that the unit has achieved in the past time.

At the same time, he requested the Command of Coast Guard Region 4 to continue to closely coordinate with functional agencies, Party committees, and authorities of An Giang province in handling IUU violations in accordance with legal regulations. With a spirit of determination, determination, thoroughness, not leaving any criminals or violations unaperceived, towards the ultimate goal of removing the EC's yellow card and sustainable development of the fisheries sector.
