On July 19, Lai Chau Provincial Police said that after nearly 2 days of searching, the authorities had found the body of a young man who had unfortunately drowned in the downstream area of the Phieng Luc Hydropower Dam, Tan Uyen Commune, Lai Chau Province.
Accordingly, at around 3:00 p.m. on July 17, D.V.Q (born in 2006, residing in Hanoi) and a group of friends went to the foot of the Phieng Luc hydropower dam to swim. While swimming, Q. unfortunately suffered cramps and gradually sank. Due to the deep, wide and cloudy water, the friends who were with him could not rescue them in time.
Upon receiving the report, the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department, Lai Chau Provincial Police urgently mobilized 16 officers, soldiers and specialized vehicles to the scene.
Due to the search difficulty due to the complex downstream terrain with many rock holes, a ravine up to 20 m deep and a very cloudy water flow, limiting visibility.
By the morning of July 19, after nearly 48 hours of searching, the victim's body had been found. Currently, the authorities have carried out the necessary procedures and handed it over to the family for funeral arrangements.
