On the morning of August 27, the People's Council (People's Council) of Kien Giang province held its 25th meeting (thematic session) to review staff work and a number of contents under the jurisdiction of the Provincial People's Council.
At the meeting, draft resolution submissions and verification reports of the Economic and Budget Committee and the Legal Department were heard. Provincial People's Council delegates voted to approve the Draft Resolution approving the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units for the period 2023-2025 of Kien Giang province. Accordingly, arrange commune-level administrative units in Rach Gia City, enter the entire natural area and population size of Vinh Thanh Van ward (natural area is 0.81 km², population size is 11,439 people) and Vinh Bao ward (natural area of 1.18 km², population of 15,990 people) became Vinh Thanh Van ward on the basis of the entire natural area and population size.
After arrangement, Rach Gia City has 11 commune-level administrative units, including 10 wards and 1 commune.
According to the Provincial People's Council, the implementation of the arrangement has been reviewed and carefully considered specific factors such as historical traditions, culture, geographical location, natural conditions, residential communities, and requirements to ensure national defense, security, social order and safety, socio-economic development. Compared with Kien Giang province's planning for the period 2021-2030, the vision to 2050 has been approved by the Prime Minister.
Chairman of the People's Council of Kien Giang province Mai Van Huynh said that based on the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the province has 1 district-level administrative unit (Ha Tien city) and 1 commune-level administrative unit (Vinh Thanh ward). Van, Rach Gia City) is subject to reorganization in the period 2023-2025. However, Ha Tien City is a district-level administrative unit with national borders and historical waters on the sea bordering the Kingdom of Cambodia, an area with a key position in defense and security. Therefore, the proposed plan is not to arrange for Ha Tien City but only to arrange for Vinh Thanh Van ward, Rach Gia city.
