The above information was announced by a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction at the socio-economic press conference on the afternoon of December 4.
According to data collected and simulation results from the Urban Traffic Management and Management Center, the level of traffic congestion in recent times has increased by 24% compared to the same period in 2024. Many routes recorded a significant increase in traffic density, showing that congestion still occurs in many areas in Ho Chi Minh City.
The average traffic speed of the whole city is currently at 34.9 km/h. In each region, the speed difference is: the center reaches 34.3 km/h; the East 35.3 km/h; the West 33.4 km/h; the South 32.7 km/h; the North 39.2 km/h.
Many traffic jam hotspots continue to be recorded such as Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street (from Bach Dang Street to Dai Liet Si 5-way intersection), Dinh Bo Linh - Bach Dang intersection, Hang Xanh intersection, Ton Duc Thang - Nguyen Huu Canh - Nguyen Binh Khiem area...
The city's gateways are also facing a similar situation. On Vo Nguyen Giap - Hanoi Highway, Thu Duc, Binh Thai intersections and areas near Cat Lai and Phu Huu ports are often congested during rush hour.
National Highway 13 - the route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Central Highlands provinces is still overloaded because the road surface has not been expanded according to the plan. In addition, the construction of raising the clearance of Binh Trieu Bridge once greatly affected traffic.
The National Highway 1 area, especially the section from To Ngoc Van Street to Ha Huy Giap, An Suong intersection, To Ky Street... continues to be complicated due to the large number of vehicles pouring in from National Highway 22 - the northwest gateway of the city.

To meet the increased demand for travel and freight transportation at the end of the year and the Lunar New Year 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said it will implement a series of urgent solutions.
The city coordinates with relevant units to organize a plan to reduce congestion in key areas such as the center, Cat Lai port, Tan Son Nhat airport, National Highway 51, National Highway 13, My Phuoc - Tan Van, DT.747, DT.743 (formerly Binh Duong area).
Ho Chi Minh City will review and adjust traffic flow at hot spots such as the city center, key construction areas: An Phu intersection, My Thuy, Tan Van - Ring Road 3, Metro 2... At the same time, coordinate with the City Police to organize traffic to serve major festivals and events at the end of the year.
Ho Chi Minh City will add a system of signs and traffic lights, improve the symmetrical size of intersections, install more cameras and synchronously connect to the control center to improve monitoring efficiency.
Investors and contractors are required to speed up progress, reduce barriers, and restore road surfaces in a timely manner to limit congestion at projects under exploitation.
Ho Chi Minh City continues to evaluate and expand smart traffic models, applying AI in monitoring and controlling signals to optimize traffic.
