After a heavy thunderstorm on the afternoon of July 19, by 9:00 a.m. this morning (July 20), the streets in Hanoi had been cleared, with no signs of fallen trees obstructing traffic.
A representative of the Hanoi Department of Construction informed that as of 7:30 this morning (September 20), there were 941 fallen and broken trees in Hanoi due to the impact of the thunderstorm on the evening of July 19.
Of which, the wards in the old districts and the axes of Thang Long Avenue, Vo Nguyen Giap, Thong Nhat Park have 771 trees. The remaining 170 trees in suburban communes.
The strong storm and heavy rain also caused a series of vehicles traveling on the road to fall, many trees were broken, corrugated iron roofs and billboards were blown off, and Noi Bai airport had to temporarily suspend many flights.
The storm also blew off many corrugated iron roofs, billboards, blew off the roof and collapsed the pillars at the pickleball court behind IA20 Apartment Building in Phu Thuong Ward, Hanoi City. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident.
In Thanh Tri commune, three large trees suddenly fell down, crushing a bus traveling near Tu Khoat temple area. Fortunately, all nearly 20 passengers and the driver were not injured.
To promptly overcome the consequences, ensure the safety of the people and maintain urban order and beauty, the Hanoi People's Committee has sent an official dispatch to the Department of Construction, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the People's Committees of communes and wards in the city to immediately overcome the situation of trees breaking and falling due to the impact of the storm that occurred on the afternoon of July 19.
The Hanoi People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment, People's Committees of communes, wards and related units to urgently organize inspections, reviews, statistics and implement solutions to handle and overcome the situation of trees broken and fallen due to the impact of the above tornado. Units need to guide, urge, summarize implementation results and report to the Hanoi People's Committee before July 22.
Communes and wards proactively develop and implement plans to handle and overcome the situation of broken and fallen trees in the management area according to the "4 on-site" motto, closely coordinate with functional units in the implementation process, ensuring safety, order and environmental sanitation. Units need to report the results to the Department of Construction before July 21 for general synthesis.
According to records, all communes and wards in Hanoi have basically overcome the situation of fallen trees, flooding and other damage.
