The Cuoi Du Market Commercial Center and Supermarket was completed in 2009 and handed over to the People's Committee of Gia Loc town, Gia Loc district, Hai Duong province in 2014.
According to Lao Dong's records on the afternoon of October 9, most of the glass windows around the building were broken. The brick floor was peeling, the light bulb system was damaged, the elevator was rusty, broken glass was scattered all over the floor, and a corner of the center is now a place for people to sort their trash.
Ms. Pham Minh Hue, who lives in Gia Loc town, Gia Loc district, Hai Duong province, shared that the Centre was built more than ten years ago but has never been used, while the old, extremely dilapidated market is still used daily by small traders.
"The local government needs to soon have a plan to use the center, otherwise leaving such a large project abandoned would be a waste," said Ms. Hue.
Mr. Doan Van Long - Chairman of Gia Loc Town People's Committee, Gia Loc District, Hai Duong Province said that the Cuoi Market Commercial Center and Supermarket has an area of over 3,000m2, invested nearly 50 billion VND with a 3-storey design with nearly 200 booths by Tay Bac Investment Joint Stock Company as the investor.
Since the Gia Loc Town People's Committee took over the Trade Center and the Cuoi Market Supermarket in 2014, it has repeatedly polled the traders, but the majority did not agree to do business in the Center. People said that the Center was in an unsuitable location, hidden, and the stalls were small and cramped, so they did not want to do business there.
"Gia Loc Town People's Committee has asked for the opinion of Gia Loc District Party Standing Committee. If the traders do not come, they will make a written request for businesses and individuals who need to rent space for the Commercial Center project and Cuoi Market supermarket to put the Center into use soon to avoid waste," Mr. Long added.
