According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, the serious traffic jam lasted from the High-Tech Park intersection to Thu Duc overpass, and continued to MK intersection.
The long line of cars forced many drivers to turn off their engines and get out of their cars because they could not move. Some people had to switch to Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) to go to work to avoid being late.
Traffic in the opposite direction is no better. Traffic jams also occurred from Cat Lai intersection to MK intersection, spreading to Mai Chi Tho street.
Many drivers said that the main cause of this congestion was the sudden increase in the number of container trucks entering and leaving Truong Tho port (at MK intersection) and Cat Lai port during the days leading up to Tet. The high volume of goods transported has put great pressure on Vo Nguyen Giap road, leading to a traffic jam.
By noon of the same day, traffic on Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue had not improved, vehicles continued to move very slowly.
