On May 2, the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province said that it had just received 10 fishermen on fishing boat BV-97879.TS who were in distress at sea after colliding with fishing boat BBC MERCURY ( like nationality of Myanmar).
According to initial information, at around 2:00 a.m. on May 2, fishing boat BV-97879.TS captained by Mr. T.Q.K (born in 1983, residing in Binh Dinh) and 9 crew members, while operating about 30 nautical miles northeast of Con Dao, collided with the BBC MERCURY cargo ship, causing it to sink.
After the collision, 10 crew members used buoys to jump into the sea, sticking to the boat's floating part; while the BBC MERCURY cargo ship did not return to rescue but continued its journey.
Receiving the search and rescue information at sea from the Center for Search and Rescue Region 3, the provincial Border Guard has mobilized BP.13.01.01 ships and officers and soldiers to quickly maneuver from Con Dao to approach the scene of the rescue work. At the same time, notify the vehicles operating near the fishing vessel area of BV-97879.TS suffered in distress to participate in support.
At about 5h10, the entire crew was safely rescued by 2 fishing vessels, and then handed over to the BP.13.01.01 ships to conduct initial medical care, reassuring the spirit and quickly maneuver to bring 9 crew members into Con Dao. Particularly, the captain continued to stay so that the fishing vessel was pulled into Con Dao to overcome and repair. Con Dao Border Station is coordinating with local health to check for health, encourage spirituality, eat and drink, accommodation for crew members in distress.
Currently, the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has instructed the owner of a fishing boat in distress to file a maritime appeal to the Vung Tau Maritime Port Authority and relevant agencies, so that competent authorities can handle the case according to regulations.
