On May 6, Mr. Lang Van Hanh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Tien Commune (Quy Hop District, Nghe An) said that after receiving the body handover from the authorities, his family is holding a funeral for Ms. Cao Thi T (39 years old, Phuc Tien Hamlet, Chau Tien Commune, Quy Hop District). Ms. T was the victim of the tunnel collapse while digging ore that occurred a day ago.
According to Mr. Hanh, Ms. T's family situation is very difficult. Her husband has a mental illness, her first child is disabled, and her second child is in 8th grade and also has to drop out of school to work for hire.
"Currently, Dai Phong Company has supported the family with 30 million VND to cover funeral expenses, while the Commune People's Committee also supported the family with 2 million VND and a bag of rice" - Mr. Hanh informed.
Previously, at noon on May 5, while workers and mine guards of Dai Phong Company (Na Hien village, Chau Hong commune) were resting, a group of people broke into this mine area and entered the natural cave in the mine area to sell ore.
However, during the ore digging process, a quantity of rock and soil fell and fell on Ms. T. When the incident was discovered, the people accompanying her ran back to report it to her family and many others to rescue her. However, unfortunately, the victim died.
After receiving the information, the local authorities mobilized forces to protect the scene and handle the incident.
The leader of Chau Hong commune said that the area where the accident occurred often had people from Chau Hong and Chau Tien coming to mine, despite the objection from the mine owner. The local government has also repeatedly propagated and banned people from arbitrarily digging ores in mountains and caves, but many people still ignore the danger.
