People worry, travel is difficult due to landslides
In many localities in Vinh Long province, landslides not only caused damage to houses but also disrupted people's lives and made travel unsafe.
In Long Ho commune, a section of road about 40m along Cai Cao river has completely eroded. People had to temporarily clear roads to go inside the fields and gardens.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bay (Phu An hamlet, Long Ho commune) said that he has lived here for decades but has never seen this section of landslide as seriously as it is now.
According to Mr. Bay, this road was previously the main entrance for hundreds of households, connecting to the main road. Now that there is no road, travel, transportation of agricultural products, and trading are affected. The elderly and children are even more miserable because they have to walk through temporary roads wherever they go.
"All the roads are swept into the river. The whole village had to ask to temporarily move on someone else's land, then board and fill the land to have a way to get back and forth. Every time it rains, I slide and fall, and the car cannot run," said Mr. Bay.

A similar situation also occurred in Quoi Thien commune. According to Ms. Le Thi Suong - a resident living near the riverbank, the bank of land in front of her house has eroded deep into the floor, causing her family to always be in a state of fear.
People in landslide areas hope the state will soon build embankments or take some measures to keep the land, because the upcoming rainy and stormy season is very dangerous.
"Not only did land lose and traffic damage, but people also faced the risk of losing their lives and property when landslides continued to show signs of spreading," Ms. Suong added.
Urgently reinforce landslides
The Vinh Long Province Irrigation Department said that in the first 7 months of 2025, the province recorded 111 landslides with a total length of 6,084m, affecting 476 households, economic losses estimated at over 15 billion VND.
In this situation, Mr. Chau Van Hoa - Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee - organized many field surveys at hot spots and directed departments, branches and localities to urgently find solutions to respond.
Mr. Hoa emphasized: "Some areas are facing serious landslides, affecting people's lives. Measures such as building embankments and reinforcing embankments are being considered, but the implementation cost is very high".

The Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee assigned the People's Committees of communes where landslides occurred to proactively determine the causes and fix landslides that can be handled immediately.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment is required to coordinate with localities to complete documents to allocate capital from the natural disaster prevention fund to repair sections of dykes that are at risk of being unsafe during the rainy season.
"Encourage the participation of investors in disaster treatment and prevention projects. The support mechanism and investor selection process need to be implemented transparently and effectively, ensuring synchronous long-term solutions to protect the safety of people and infrastructure in rural areas," Mr. Hoa added.
