On the afternoon of August 4, Mr. Vo Ta Ky - Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Due Commune - said that the officials and people of Cam Due Commune were very happy and excited to receive the news that the People's Committee of Ha Tinh Province had approved the investment decision for the project to mitigate the erosion of the left bank of the Ngan Mo River, downstream of Cho Vuc Bridge, with a total budget of 14.8 billion VND.
"After many years of struggling against floods with temporary embankments, the province now has a solid embankment project, making the officials and people living along the eroded Ngan Mo River very happy. We hope that the project will be implemented soon," Mr. Ky shared.
According to the approval decision, the project to mitigate the erosion of the left bank of the Ngan Mo River, downstream of Cho Vuc Bridge, will be implemented in 2024 - 2025, with the People's Committee of Cam Xuyen District as the investor.
The project will construct a solid concrete and steel embankment with a length of over 400 meters and a height of 4.5 - 5 meters.
Upon completion, the project will effectively protect about 30 hectares of natural land, residential land, and infrastructure systems, including houses and inter-communal roads in Due - Thach. It will also ensure safety and stable living conditions for about 60 households, prevent floods, mitigate natural disasters, and adapt to climate change for the local area.
At the end of October 2023, Lao Dong Newspaper reported extensively on the severe erosion of the left bank of the Ngan Mo River caused by floods, affecting the homes of residents in Phuong Tru Village, Cam Due Commune.
The situation left people anxious, and after each erosion event, the authorities of Cam Due Commune, Cam Xuyen District mobilized hundreds of soldiers, militia, and residents to use large stones, steel nets, and bamboo stakes for temporary reinforcement. However, the embankments built one day were often washed away by floods the next day.
Therefore, the authorities and people earnestly requested higher authorities to allocate funds and approve a solid riverbank embankment project to reduce anxiety and insecurity during each flood season.
Subsequently, the People's Committee of Cam Xuyen District, along with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ha Tinh, submitted a proposal to the People's Committee of Ha Tinh Province to approve the project for the anti-erosion embankment of the Ngan Mo River.
