From 5:30 a.m. on July 19, hundreds of people were present at Minh Chau Primary School - the venue for the free medical examination and medicine distribution in Minh Chau island commune, Hanoi. Minh Chau is the first locality in the country to deploy health check-ups for all people - after operating the two-level local government model from July 1, 2025.
More than 1,000 elderly people in the island commune received a general examination, blood pressure measurement, ultrasound, cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory examination... and in-depth consultation.
"I have diabetes and lost both eyes, and I rarely go to the doctor before because I have a long, difficult road. Now that the doctor has arrived, we are very happy," Ms. Nguyen Thi Thieng (70 years old) emotionally shared.
The program was implemented by the Party Committee, People's Committee, People's Council and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Minh Chau commune in coordination with Tuoi Tre Thu Do Newspaper and many major medical units. This is a practical activity to concretize the direction of General Secretary To Lam and the leaders of Hanoi city on organizing annual health check-ups for the entire population.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tien - Party Secretary, Chairman of the People's Council of Minh Chau commune, emphasized: "Immediately after the two-level government model came into operation, we identified taking care of people's health and improving people's lives as the top priority task."
The "2025 National Health Care Journey" program is divided into 5 phases, examining all commune residents in each area. In the first phase alone, 1,200 priority people such as people over 60 years old, people with disabilities, and disadvantaged households were thoroughly examined and given medicine on the spot. The remaining phases will continue in August and September, ensuring coverage for the entire population.
Notably, more than 60 doctors and nurses from central hospitals such as Bach Mai, Endocrinology, Lung, K, E, Traditional Medicine, 19/8 of the Ministry of Public Security... directly participated. The doctors and nurses provide modern equipment and quality medical services, while giving people detailed advice on health status, how to monitor and care at home.
According to Master of Nursing Ta Hong Lien (Central Hospital for Traditional Medicine), many old men and women, despite their chronic diseases, have never had an electrocardiogram or ultrasound. "We are very touched to see the trust and expectations from the people. This is not only a medical examination, but also a humane sharing, she said.
Dr. Vu Manh Cuong (Central Lung Hospital) said that bringing health care to the island commune not only helps save costs and time but also improves the effectiveness of early detection of dangerous diseases.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung - Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Health highly appreciated the initiative of Minh Chau commune, and said that the whole city has completed 8.2 million electronic health records.
He hopes that Minh Chau commune will be a model of a "livable commune" with a green environment, modern and smart healthcare services. At the event, hospitals and sponsors also presented many meaningful gifts to local people.
