According to information from the leader of the People's Committee of Duc Tho district, the accident occurred at around 11:05 p.m. on December 30 when Mr. Phan Ngoc Tri (born in 1986, residing in Duc Huong Quang village, Lam Trung Thuy commune, Duc Tho district) was driving a car with license plate 38A-172.70 carrying Truong Thi Hoi (born in 1995, residing in Vinh Thanh village, Dong Van commune, Tan Ky district, Nghe An province) on National Highway 15A in the direction of Can Loc - Duc Tho.
When reaching Km371+400 (Cho Giay bridge) in Moi hamlet, Thanh Binh Thinh commune, Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province, the car lost control and plunged into Nha Le canal.
At about 6:15 a.m. on December 31, people discovered the incident and reported it to the police.
Upon arriving at the scene, Duc Tho District Police determined that Phan Ngoc Tri and Truong Thi Hoi had died in the car; the vehicle was damaged.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by authorities.
