At about 2:45 p.m. on December 2, a car driven by driver N.H.Y (34 years old, residing in Thoi Son ward, Dong Thap province) was traveling on Rach Mieu bridge from Dong Thap province to Vinh Long.
When approaching the middle of the bridge, in Thoi Son ward (Dong Thap province), the fire suddenly flared up fiercely from the front of the car. The driver rushed to use fire extinguishers to put out the fire but it was ineffective. The fire caused disruption and prolonged congestion in traffic through Rach Mieu Bridge.
After receiving the report, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police of Dong Thap Province quickly arrived at the scene to put out the fire. Traffic police were also present in time to regulate, divert traffic, ensure order and limit congestion on the bridge.
After about 20 minutes of firefighting efforts, the fire was controlled. However, the front of the car was almost completely burned down. According to initial statistics, the damage from the fire is estimated at about 200 million VND.
The cause and damage of the fire are currently being investigated by Dong Thap Provincial Police.
