The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Kien Giang Province has just coordinated with the management units of Rach Gia City Inland Water Port to organize a fire prevention and rescue plan drill. The drill had the participation of hundreds of officers and soldiers from the Fire Prevention and Rescue force and related units.
Colonel Nguyen Nhat Truong, Deputy Director of the Provincial Police, emphasized: The exercise aims to improve the quick response skills of functional forces in handling emergency situations at the Port, where there are many watercraft and goods with high risk of fire and explosion. This is also an opportunity to test and evaluate the coordination ability between units in firefighting and rescue work.

The forces handled the hypothetical situation given: A passenger ship was picking up passengers to prepare for the Rach Gia - Phu Quoc route when criminals set off an explosion, causing a fire in the luggage compartment area, the fire quickly engulfed the entire ship.
Two tour guides and eight passengers on the lower deck were injured, some of whom jumped into the sea to escape. At the same time, the criminals continued to detonate explosives at the Port's waiting room and caused a fire while forces were actively organizing firefighting and rescue efforts on the ship. The explosion left one person severely burned, four passengers injured and caused a fire in the waiting room area.

The fire alarm system was activated, and the on-site fire brigade quickly took measures to evacuate passengers and control the initial fire. At the same time, professional fire brigades were mobilized to the scene to support, deploying water cannons and specialized equipment to extinguish the fire.
Thanks to the smooth coordination between forces, the fire was controlled in a short time, minimizing damage and protecting the safety of those present at the port.
After the exercise, the delegates held an evaluation meeting. Colonel Nguyen Nhat Truong emphasized the importance of regular exercises and highly appreciated the preparation and coordination between participating forces. The quick, timely and procedural response plans helped minimize damage in the hypothetical situation.

Today's drill demonstrated the careful preparation of all units, not only as an annual activity to test the effectiveness of fire fighting plans but also contributing to raising public awareness of fire prevention and fighting. Thereby, strengthening people's confidence in the safety of the Inland Waterway Port and cargo transportation activities here, creating favorable conditions for the socio-economic development of Rach Gia city in particular, and Kien Giang province in general.
