Xia uses BYD's signature powertrain (DM-i), which has been used for the Sea Lion 6 mid-size SUV. This system combines a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with a capacity of 154 horsepower on a 268-horsepower electric motor; with a 20.4kWh battery pack, providing a driving range of about 80 km (if only counting electricity).
Xia has parameters of 5,145 mm x 1,970 mm x 1,805 mm (length x width x height). Meanwhile, the overall dimensions of competitors such as Kia Carnival (5,155 x 2,010 x 1,775), Maxus G90 (5,280 x 1,998 x 1,845), Zeekr 009 (5,209 x 2,024 x 1,812), Xpeng X9 (5,293 x 1,988 x 1,785) and GAC Trumpchi E9 (5,193 x 1,893 x 1,823). Based on these parameters, the Xia model has the shortest wheelbase.
The exterior of the Xia stands out with a large chrome grille; behind the car there are small spoilers on the roof and a modern parallel taillights system. The interior is designed with 7 seats by the company with 2+2+3 seats respectively. The central control area includes a row of physical buttons, a wireless phone charging Soda and 2 cup holders.
According to the company, the second row of seats of the new model has a zero-gravity mode, helping to adjust the spine posture comfortably. Other features include: electric footrest, heating, ventilation and massage function. Second-seat passengers also have a large screen mounted on the ceiling and refrigerator.
The third row of seats also brings comfort with heating and ventilation features. In particular, the car can move 10 cm to expand the trunk space and can be folded flat - a rare feature in the minivan line.
BYD said that the Xia model is expected to be sold in China in the first quarter of 2025. The price of a hybrid MPV is 38,400-43,800 USD (about 978 million - 1 billion 116 million VND).
Among Xia's competitors, the GAC Trumpchi E9 is currently one of the fastest plug-in hybrid minivans (PHEVs) with a charging time of 30-80% in about 8 minutes; the Zeekr 009 and Xpeng X9 models are both pure electric MPVs, only the Kia Carnival is similar to the BYD Xia with a pure hybrid system.
