Update on motorbike insurance premiums after Tet

Xuyên Đông |

According to current law, motorbike insurance is still compulsory.

According to a survey by Lao Dong Newspaper on February 3, 2025, on the websites of insurance companies such as Bao Viet Insurance; PTI Insurance of the Post and Telecommunication Joint Stock Insurance Corporation; GIC Insurance; MIC Military Insurance; PVI Insurance Corporation; VNI Insurance of the Aviation Insurance Corporation... all have motor vehicle civil liability insurance products (including motorbike insurance).

Motorcycle insurance premiums are still determined according to the provisions of Decree 67/2023/ND-CP.

Accordingly, at February 3, 2025, the common motorbike insurance premium for motorbikes over 50cc of all companies is 66,000 VND/year.

Motorbikes under 50cc: 60,500 VND/year.

Large displacement motorbikes, 3-wheeled motorbikes and other vehicles over 175cc: VND 319,000/year.

People should note that according to new regulations (Decree No. 168/2024/ND-CP, effective from January 1, 2025), the fine for motorbike insurance has increased compared to before.

Point a, point b Clause 2 Article 18 Decree 168 stipulates penalties and deduction of driving license points for violations of regulations on conditions for motor vehicle drivers as follows:

A fine of 200,000 VND to 300,000 VND shall be imposed for one of the following violations:

Drivers of motorbikes, mopeds (motorbikes), and other types of vehicles similar to motorbikes and other types of vehicles similar to mopeds engaged in transport business do not carry a valid certificate of compulsory civil liability insurance for motor vehicle owners.

Drivers of motorcycles, mopeds, vehicles similar to motorcycles and vehicles similar to mopeds do not have a valid certificate of compulsory civil liability insurance for motor vehicle owners.

According to current regulations (Decree 100/2019, amended by Decree 123/2021), motorcyclists who do not have or do not carry a valid Certificate of Civil Liability Insurance of Motor Vehicle Owners (motorcycle insurance) shall be fined from 100,000 to 200,000 VND.

Thus, according to the new regulations on administrative penalties for traffic violations from 2025, the violation of not having compulsory motorbike insurance (or expired motorbike insurance) will be fined from 200,000 to 300,000 VND instead of the current level of 100,000 to 200,000 VND.
