This model first appeared in July 2008, when it was imported through Hai Phong port to a collector in Ho Chi Minh City. At that time, the presence of the SLR McLaren attracted a lot of attention among car enthusiasts thanks to its unique design and iconic value. This is also the last product of cooperation between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren before the two brands officially separate.
According to information from collectors, after about two years of use, the first owner transferred the car to an acquaintance in Hanoi. Since then, the car has remained the property of this collector. For many years, there have been proposals to buy back at prices of tens of billions of VND, but the owner has no intention of transferring.
SLR is the abbreviation of Sport Leicht Rennsport in German or Sport Light Racing in English. The nickname " silvery hat" is associated with the car model thanks to its aerodynamic lines and the characteristic silver paint color, inspired by the legendary Mercedes 300 SLR of the last century. The frame is made of plastic fiber reinforced, helping the weight to stop at 1,750 kg.
Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren uses a 5.4-liter M155 V8 engine with a supercharger, with a maximum capacity of 626 horsepower and a maximum torque of 780 Nm. The car is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reaching a maximum speed of 334 km/h. During the development process, Mercedes is responsible for manufacturing the engine, while McLaren is responsible for the installation to optimize weight balance with the front-seat but rear-wheel drive structure.
