Regarding product origin, domestically assembled car sales reached 13,080 units, down 6% compared to the previous month. The number of completely built-up imported cars sold reached 16,855 units.
Notably, the hybrid vehicle segment continues to maintain a high growth rate. In May alone, hybrid vehicle sales reached 1,670 vehicles, an increase of 59% compared to the previous month. Accumulated in the first 5 months of 2026, sales of this car line reached 8,518 vehicles, an increase of 80% compared to the same period last year.
According to VAMA, the trend of shifting to fuel-efficient and electrified car lines is becoming a new driving force for the growth of the Vietnamese auto market.
In the brand group, Toyota continued to lead sales in May with 5,653 vehicles sold. The next positions respectively belonged to Ford with 3,493 vehicles, Mitsubishi reached 3,111 vehicles, Kia reached 2,512 vehicles and Mazda with 2,304 vehicles.

In addition to hybrid vehicles, the battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV) group also began to record growth signals when VAMA members reported sales of 64 vehicles in the early period of the year.
According to experts' assessment, the above results show that the Vietnamese car market is recovering positively thanks to increased shopping demand and the trend of prioritizing fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly car lines.
However, VAMA's data does not reflect the entire market because many brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Subaru or Chinese automakers have not announced business results. In addition, sales from Hyundai Thanh Cong and VinFast have not been updated in this report.
