According to Hero MotoCorp, the 2-wheel electric vehicle can be converted into a 3-wheel vehicle by attaching to the cabin with a rear box. The rear cabin will be provided by the company depending on the customer's needs to carry people or goods. The front is a separate 2-wheel vehicle, used like a regular motorbike.
To register for this special type of vehicle, the automaker and the Indian Ministry of Road Transport have cooperated to create a separate category: L2/L5. This list is defined as "a bowl of rice combined with 2 and 3 wheels". In which, 2-wheeled vehicles in the L2 category can be combined. According to the company, each part of the vehicle has its own registration plate. However, when combined, they still form a unified vehicle.
This unique product is developed on the S32 electric vehicle platform. The conversion process can take 3 minutes. When combined, the Surge S32 works with the front wheel of the motorbike and the rear wheel will be raised to give the operating mechanism to the 2 rear wheels of the vehicle body.
In 2-wheel mode: the vehicle uses a 2.6 horsepower electric motor with a 3.5-kWh battery that can reach a maximum speed of 60 km/h. In 3-wheel mode: the vehicle uses a 4-horsepower motor with an 11 kWh battery and the maximum speed is reduced to 50 km/h. Hero MotoCorp aims to produce 10,000 Surge S32s and is expected to sell them in mid-2025.
