The new version of the Toyota Hilux Champ is designed for customers who want to use the Hilux Champ as a multi-purpose sports car. The Hilux Champ model has been converted by the company into an SUV - Hilux Rangga, which is friendly to passengers, has a closed cabin, and is arranged with 3 rows of seats with 7 seats.
According to Toyota, this conversion is being carried out by a domestic company called New Armada - a company specializing in producing bodywork for buses. However, the Hilux Rangga SUV will be sold by Toyota Astra Motor in the Indonesian market as a complete model. The first prototype was introduced by the company in October 2024, until recently, images of the production version were officially available on the company's pages.
The front of the Hilux Rangga remains the same as the pickup truck, with the B-pillar and rear being redesigned by the company. The new rear of the car is designed in a square style like the pickup versions. The large tailgate has been supplemented with Rangga with a vertical taillight set with a simple design. The company also added a higher roof with a roof rack and kept the unpainted plastic layer under the body.
The SUV's cabin has 2 more rear seats, with the arrangement of the seats being 2-3-2 respectively. Because of that, the rear storage space is limited.
The Rangga SUV uses the same advanced global multi-purpose vehicle platform as the Hilux and Fortuner. In Indonesia, this model has 2 engine options: a 2-liter gasoline engine (capacity of 137 horsepower) and a 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine (capacity of up to 148 horsepower). Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
According to Anton Jimmy Suwandi - Marketing Director of Toyota Astra Motor, the selling price of the Hilux Rangga SUV version using a gasoline engine and manual transmission will be from 25,000 USD (about 636 million VND).
Currently, Toyota has not announced plans to introduce the Rangga SUV to other markets.
