Preventing gambling advertising tricks
On June 9, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the leader of Dong Hoi Ward People's Committee, Quang Tri province, said that immediately after Lao Dong Newspaper reflected the situation of business items at some shops in the area with logos and QR codes leading to online football betting and gambling websites, the locality directed forces to conduct actual inspections.
Accordingly, the General Service Center of Dong Hoi ward has organized a review at many business establishments, eateries, and water stalls in the area.
Mr. Dang Ngoc Hung - Director of the General Service Center of Dong Hoi ward said that the inspection process recorded the situation as reflected in Lao Dong Newspaper.
On that basis, the locality has promoted propaganda and guidance for business owners and households to raise vigilance against tricks of spreading disguised gambling advertisements.
If a strange object appears and gives away items containing harmful advertising content, people should not accept them and need to immediately notify the functional agencies for inspection and handling" - Mr. Hung said.
Also according to Mr. Hung, for items containing logos, QR codes or advertising content leading to betting websites, local authorities have requested shop owners to completely remove them.
The new items will be scraped off or the advertising layer will be removed to continue using. In case it cannot be repaired, they must be destroyed and not allowed to be put into use again" - Mr. Hung affirmed.
Destroying items containing harmful advertisements
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper published the article "Tricks to give free utensils to eateries to install gambling websites", reflecting the situation of strangers giving free boxes of napkins, toothpicks, seasoning boxes, and chopstick trays to eateries in Dong Hoi ward.
Notably, logos, words or QR codes leading to online betting and gambling websites appear on these items. Many shop owners said they receive free items but do not know that they contain advertising content for gambling websites.
According to a representative of the General Service Center of Dong Hoi ward, the unit currently maintains a contact group with business households in the area to promptly inform, warn and guide people to identify disguised advertising forms, contributing to controlling and preventing harmful content from creeping into the community.
Previously, Quang Tri Provincial Police also issued a warning about the situation of disguised gambling advertising appearing at business establishments in many different forms.
