Regarding the wood processing factory of Son Thuy Joint Stock Company (Mong Hoa commune, Hoa Binh city) discharging strange-colored wastewater into the environment, Hoa Binh City Police and related units established an inspection team and discovered a series of violations by this enterprise.
Accordingly, during the working session at the enterprise on October 21, the working delegation discovered that the wastewater discharge license No. 03/GP-UBND issued by the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province on January 7, 2019, valid for 5 years, expired on January 7, 2024.
Besides, this enterprise has not yet presented the results of environmental quality monitoring in 2024.
Actual inspection showed that this enterprise's factory has not arranged a temporary storage area for hazardous waste and does not collect and store hazardous waste according to regulations.
Explaining the above issue, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thuy - Director of the company said that Son Thuy Joint Stock Company mainly operates peeling machines and wood pressing machines. The operating capacity is about 10,000m3 of wood/year. Currently, the factory has 180 workers. During the production process, no wastewater is generated. Wastewater is mainly generated from the living activities of workers.
"Regarding the temporary storage area, hazardous waste is arranged next to the boiler. However, recently, when repairing, the boiler got stuck so the temporary waste storage area was dismantled" - the business leader added.
Concluding the working session, Hoa Binh City Police requested Son Thuy Joint Stock Company to complete all documents and procedures related to production and business activities and commit to comply with the provisions of the law on environmental protection.
Hoa Binh City Police also requested that this enterprise be present at the headquarters of the Economic and Drug Police Team today (October 22) to continue working and provide the police with any missing related documents.
At the same time, coordinate with the police when collecting wastewater samples and testing wastewater sample results.
Previously, reflecting to Lao Dong Newspaper, people of Ao Kenh village, Mong Hoa commune, Hoa Binh city were upset about Son Thuy Joint Stock Company blatantly discharging strangely colored wastewater into the environment.
Present on October 18 at the sewer located in the area bordering the forest product processing factory of Son Thuy Joint Stock Company, the group of reporters directly witnessed the waste discharge situation of this enterprise.
The waste dyed the canal pink and flowed straight into the fields and Bay Chau stream - where people in Ao Kenh and Dong Giang villages irrigate and cultivate.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Theu - living about 100m from the ditch area, often witnesses the discharge of waste by this enterprise - said: "The discharge has been going on for nearly a year now. The waste water is sometimes pink, red, black, often has an odor or not".
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan - Head of Dong Giang village - said that half of the wastewater flows into the stream and the other half flows into the fields of Dong Giang village. People are extremely worried that this situation will seriously affect the water source, health and farming area.
