On March 24, Da Nang City held an inauguration ceremony, handed over and put into use the sidewalk renovation project on Thang Long Street along Cam Le River with a total investment of more than 44 billion VND.
Not just a simple urban renovation project, this project demonstrates Da Nang's determination to develop green transportation, reduce emissions and promote a healthy lifestyle for people.
With a dedicated bicycle path, a natural stone walking path, diverse trees and public exercise equipment, this riverside space is becoming an ideal destination for city residents.
The use of linh trees - a type of flower with beautiful flowers, originating from the South American region and the area near the Amazon forest - for the first time being planted on the streets of Da Nang, not only creates a landscape highlight but also shows a deep investment, considering ecological factors.
At the same time, the preservation of old trees, relocation of unsuitable trees and planting additional trees such as cattle foundations, military dogs, purple coral... further affirm the sustainable development philosophy that the city pursues.
In particular, the project also focuses on public utility factors when investing in two clusters of ASEAN-standard toilets, using automatic touch technology, anti-bacterial and environmentally friendly equipment.
These details show that Da Nang is not only interested in building infrastructure but also aims to create a modern and civilized public environment.
Looking more broadly, Da Nang's investment in a green space along the river with a separate path for bicycles shows a vision in line with the trend of modern urban development in the world.
Previously, in 2024, the locality neighboring Da Nang, Hue city, also became a pioneer in building a separate path for bicycles, opening a premise and important suggestions for other cities.
In many developed countries, green transportation, especially bicycles, has become an indispensable part of urban planning. Europe has long applied this model, helping to reduce emissions, reduce traffic congestion and improve the quality of life of people.
In Vietnam, although there have been initial steps, to truly change travel habits and promote the use of bicycles or walking, more similar projects are needed.
Green transportation models such as Da Nang or Hue need to be expanded locally as well as replicated nationwide. Especially large cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City... are facing many difficulties in developing green transportation due to unsynchronized infrastructure, high density of motor vehicles and limited land fund.
In fact, investing in green transportation not only brings environmental benefits but also creates momentum for local tourism and economic development.
The cool green riverside roads and safe bicycle paths not only serve the travel needs of residents but also become a highlight to attract tourists, contributing to improving the quality of life in the city.
Hue City is a pioneer, and now Da Nang, has proven that green transportation is not only feasible but also brings multi-dimensional benefits: from environment, health to economy and culture.
The remaining issue is the determination of localities, policy mechanisms to encourage businesses to participate and campaigns to raise public awareness to create consensus, response... to jointly aim to create a greener, more livable environment.
