On October 25, leaders of Dai Loc district, Quang Nam province confirmed that many students at Nguyen Ngoc Binh Primary School (Dai Hiep commune, Dai Loc district) were hospitalized after eating yogurt.
The incident occurred at 1 p.m. on October 24, when nearly 300 students of Nguyen Ngoc Binh Primary School were given yogurt and ate it right at the school's boarding area. About 30 minutes later, 15 students (including 11 4th graders) showed symptoms of stomachache, vomiting, and fatigue.
Students showing signs of food poisoning were taken to Dai Hiep Commune Health Station, then transferred to the Northern Mountainous Region General Hospital of Quang Nam for emergency treatment.
Doctor Le Cong Huyt - Head of Pediatrics Department, Quang Nam Northern Mountainous Region General Hospital - said that at the time of admission, all 15 students showed symptoms of vomiting and abdominal pain.
"After being hospitalized, the condition of the 15 children has gradually stabilized. It is expected that some of them will be discharged home today. The remaining cases, especially the two students with enteritis, will continue to be monitored and are expected to be discharged early next week," said Dr. Huyt.
Immediately after the suspected food poisoning incident occurred, Dai Loc district leaders directed the district Health Center to collect yogurt samples for testing.
Up to now, authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the incident in which 15 students showed signs of poisoning and had to be hospitalized.
