On December 2, Thai Binh Children's Hospital, Hung Yen province informed that the hospital had just received patient D.H.M (11 months old, residing in Giao Minh commune, Ninh Binh province), in a state of suspicion of swallowing a foreign object, a sewing needle. Through investigation, the family said that the children were taken to play at the neighbor's house, where there were many garments; during the match, the children accidentally picked up a sewing needle with a round plastic head and swallowed it in their stomachs.
At the Examination Department, the patient was quickly approached, and after examination, the child was determined to be mentally alert, breathing with his own pink lips, without invasive syndrome, no difficulty breathing, no soft abdomen and no bloating, and paraclinical tests were prescribed.
After examination, the child was diagnosed with a digestive foreign object and was admitted to the Department of Gastroenterology for monitoring, consultation and emergency treatment. Endoscopic images showed that the baby's esophageal and stomach lining was not inflamed; in the duodenum D1-D2, a 4cm long needle foreign object was discovered, one point pointed to the duodenal wall, and one chrysanthemum-shaped plastic end located in the intestines.
The patient was prescribed an endoscopy for emergency intervention, avoiding the risk of foreign objects moving deeply and causing serious damage.
After the intervention, the child regained consciousness, ate normally again, had a soft abdomen, was not vomited, was not in pain and was continued to be monitored in the Department of Gastroenterology. Up to now, the children's health is stable.
