The doctor, Mr. Nguyen Van Hai - Head of the Cardiology Department - Cardiac Intervention, Hong Ngoc General Hospital, recently reported that the hospital received a young man approximately 30 years old.
The patient is a driver with a history of long-term smoking. Before being admitted to the hospital, the patient consumed approximately 500ml of beer and wine with friends. About 30 minutes after returning home, the patient experienced chest tightness and was taken to the emergency room.
The patient arrived at the hospital during the second hour of the myocardial infarction. Immediately, the patient underwent emergency surgery. The doctors found a blockage in the heart and performed angioplasty.
"Recently, cardiovascular disease has been becoming younger, and research has also shown that, in addition to traditional risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking…, there are now additional risk factors in young people, such as stress, lack of sleep, and obesity" - Dr. Hai said.
In the reports summarizing cardiovascular disease over the past 30 years, it has been shown that risk factors for cardiovascular disease are increasing, especially in developing countries.
Among these, in addition to lifestyle risk factors such as smoking, lack of exercise, and obesity…, cardiovascular experts also confirm new risk factors. These include environmental pollution and stress.
The information above was shared by Dr. Pham Manh Hung - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Cardiology Association - at the international conference updating the progress of cardiovascular interventions in Vietnam and around the world, held on August 10 in Hanoi.
"For young people, many patients have accumulated risk factors earlier. The main cause of the disease is mainly due to eating fast food, high-fat foods, stressful work, environmental pollution, and lack of exercise" - Dr. Hung said.

In an interview with Lao Dong reporter, Dr. Hung said: At the Cardiology Institute, there are cases of patients who were only 20 years old when they were admitted. Most cases of sudden death in young people are due to myocardial infarction, which are mostly male smokers, obese, or have a family history.
Additionally, many young people have died suddenly while playing sports or running. According to Dr. Hung, the majority of these cases are related to cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Hung emphasized that cardiovascular disease often occurs in young people with congenital heart disease, arrhythmia, or other heart conditions that they have to live with. However, when they exert themselves, especially during marathon running or excessive physical activity, they can lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, arrhythmia, and death.
Additionally, many young people also have atherosclerosis, which can lead to a ruptured artery and myocardial infarction when they exert themselves excessively.
"To detect the disease early, people should have regular health check-ups. Some signs on the electrocardiogram and ultrasound will help doctors detect potential risks" - Dr. Hung advised.
Doctors also advise young people to maintain a healthy lifestyle, avoid excessive drinking, quit smoking, maintain regular exercise, and have regular health check-ups to prevent cardiovascular disease.
