Health care in the village, must " endure prolonged heavy rain"
Born and raised in Tran Phu Farm Town, Van Chan District, Yen Bai Province, after graduating from Yen Bai Medical College (now Yen Bai College), Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Huong volunteered to work in the mountainous district of Tram Tau.
In her first years working at commune health stations in remote areas such as Phinh Ho, Ban Cong, Hat Lung..., Ms. Huong faced countless difficulties: dangerous roads, language barriers, people rarely went to see a doctor, still kept the habit of inviting priests when sick. Every day, she persistently walks into each propaganda about disease prevention, cooked meals, boiled drinks, and vaccinations, helping people gradually understand the benefits of modern medicine. She also coordinated with the Medical Center to organize evening meetings to instruct people on how to take care of their health.
With the motto "short-term rain", more and more people are coming to health stations for medical examination and treatment. After nearly 30 years of working in the highlands, the female physician is considered by many people as her relatives.
Similarly, Dr. Giang A Lu (Mu Cang Chai District Medical Center) grew up in a land with many difficulties and shortages, so he witnessed many cases where when he was sick, people still asked the offerer to "exorcise" him instead of going to a medical facility.
Like when working in mass mobilization, after graduating from Thai Nguyen University of Medicine and returning to his hometown to work, he often crossed the forest and crossed the stream to live with the people.
"Many times when I went to the village, there was no signal or electricity, so it was very difficult to approach and mobilize people. Hearing about the vaccination, adults rushed to close their doors, children were frightened and ran away" - he shared.
" any hardship is nothing compared to the pain of the patient"
Talking about the hardships in the medical industry, Dr. Giang A Lu said that it is nothing compared to the pain of patients. When seeing grinding faces and weak roarings from illness, no matter how tired, the doctor still had to struggle, stand up and run very fast to "fight". Only then can they truly deserve the trust that the patient has in them.
The feeling of saving a patients life is a happiness that cannot be expressed in words. That is also the motivation for me to always push myself, need to strive to be able to contribute more..., the male doctor who has worked in the health sector for 17 years shared.
Ms. Giang Thi Co in Trong Tong village, La Pan Tan commune, Mu Cang Chai district said: "Previously, people in the highlands only gave birth at home, and when sick, they invited shamans and priests. But now, we have known about the hospital and have received dedicated and thoughtful care from other doctors".
Or Dr. Vu Hong Long - Head of the Young Physicians Association of Yen Bai City regularly coordinates with delegations to go to mountainous areas to organize health check-ups, consultations, and provide free medicine to people in difficult circumstances and ethnic minority areas.
Doctor Long shared that in the past, people were still in difficulty and out-of-competence, so they gave birth at home, but now the staff have propagated to the health facilities of the commune and district to give birth, to treat diseases, and ensure the safety of mother and child, so there are not many people giving birth at home.
Doctor Tran Quang Manh - Director of Yen Bai City Medical Center - highly appreciated Doctor Vu Hong Long for his enthusiasm and responsibility in his work, always devoted to patients and ready to be on duty day and night to handle and treat cases. In addition to his expertise, he also actively conducts scientific research, including research on the effectiveness of treating type 2 diabetes in inpatients. This project contributes to improving the quality of consultation, management, care and treatment of patients at medical facilities.
