On January 11, Hoa Lu Eye Hospital (Ninh Binh) announced that it had successfully performed surgery on a patient with a serious eye injury caused by a work accident.
The male patient is N.L.A, born in 1992 (residing in Yen Khanh commune, Y Yen district, Nam Dinh province). Mr. A works as a mechanic, and while working, he was unfortunately hit in the eye by a screw. His family took him to Hoa Lu Eye Hospital for emergency treatment in a conscious state but with severe pain in the eye area, and blood flowing from the eye.
Doctor Trinh The Son (Examination Department, Hoa Lu Eye Hospital) said that after examination, the patient's left eye had a corneal tear of about 7mm, an arc-shaped tear with uneven edges, iris prolapse, vitreous prolapse at the wound, lens dislocation, iris root rupture and vitreous hemorrhage.
Recognizing that this was a complicated and very dangerous situation that needed to be treated quickly, the team prescribed aggressive medication and emergency surgery to minimize the risk of infection and save the patient's eyes.
After about 30 minutes, the surgery was successful, the eye was stretched again, and the intraocular tissue was returned inside. The patient continued to be monitored and actively treated at the hospital.
"Eye injuries are a common medical condition in young people of working age. Common injuries include: eye burns, contusions, sharp objects shot into the eyes. To prevent eye injuries during work, workers need to comply with labor safety regulations and wear protective glasses. When suffering an eye injury, they need to go to a specialized hospital immediately for timely examination and treatment by doctors" - Dr. Trinh The Son shared.
