On November 29, regarding the suspected food poisoning case due to eating banh mi in Vung Tau City, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Dr. Pham Thi Thu Hien - Head of Vung Tau City Health Department - said that there are currently no official test results for the samples.
According to Dr. Hien, the samples were sent for testing by the Food Safety and Hygiene Department of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province on November 27, and according to the procedure, the results will be available after 7 days. However, the local authorities have contacted the agency hoping for early results to resolve the case, as it affects many people.
Previously, since the afternoon of November 28, there has been a lot of information circulating on social networks claiming that the results of the examination showed that the sauce and pork roll were contaminated with bacteria, which was the cause of the poisoning. According to the Department of Health, this is not an official conclusion.
"This is information exchanged within the medical sector about the possibility of infection causing poisoning, in order to orient the development of a treatment regimen for patients with suspected food poisoning caused by banh mi. The earliest official results may not be available until December 2," Dr. Hien informed.
According to the report of the Department of Health of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, as of 4:00 p.m. on November 28, 310 cases have been recorded at Vung Tau Hospital and Vietsovpetro Medical Center for treatment of food poisoning. Of these, 149 cases have been discharged home for monitoring, and 161 cases have been hospitalized for inpatient treatment (3 severe cases with hypotension or shock), and no cases of danger due to poisoning leading to death have been recorded.
A leader of Vung Tau Hospital said that some cases of poisoning that caused fever needed further monitoring, so treatment and discharge were quite slow, even though symptoms of nausea and vomiting had completely resolved... At the same time, on the evening of November 28, there were also some additional cases of hospitalization for treatment due to food poisoning.
