On December 30, the An Giang Provincial People's Council approved the draft Resolution stipulating the level of support for building new traditional Ngo boats of Khmer ethnic people in An Giang province.
The subjects of application are boat clubs established by competent authorities associated with Khmer Southern Buddhist pagodas in An Giang province. Specifically, to support a part of the cost to build new traditional boats, the support level is 300 million VND/ghe ngo/club.
According to An Giang Provincial People's Committee, in recent years, the Party and State have always had policies to prioritize and comprehensively develop ethnic minority areas in each stage, and the material and spiritual life of Khmer people has gradually improved.
The Khmer ethnic minority in An Giang province (after the merger) has about 399,002 people (accounting for 8% of the province's population). The Khmer mainly live in remote and isolated areas, border areas; socio-economic and cultural conditions are still difficult, mainly engaged in farming, concentrated around Southern Khmer Buddhist pagodas.
Khmer ethnic people have many festivals, there are 3 main festivals that are very unique, need to be preserved and promote their values including: the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay Tet Festival; Sene Dolta festival; Ok Om Bok festival, in which the most prominent activity is ghe ngo racing.
Bote racing is associated with the formation and development of the cultural identity of the Khmer ethnic people and has an important position in the community, a typical and unique cultural symbol of the Khmer ethnic people.
In fact, through surveys in An Giang province (after the merger), there are a total of about 34 traditional ngo boats, proposing to build 29 new boats (of which An Giang old has 4 more pagodas in need of support to build new ngo boats to have the opportunity to participate in cultural, sports and tourism festivals in the province).
To synchronously deploy and unify documents related to the level of support for building new Ngo boats in An Giang province (after the merger), the Provincial People's Committee submitted to the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council to propose the development of a Resolution of the Provincial People's Council stipulating the level of support for building new Ngo boats is necessary.
Supporting part of the cost of building new ngo boats as a solid foundation contributes to restoring, preserving and promoting the good traditional values of the Khmer ethnic people of the province, creating conditions for Khmer ethnic people to have means (to listen) to participate in cultural and sports exchanges.
