On January 14, Quang Tri Provincial Customs Department held a ceremony to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Provincial Customs Department and commend advanced models.
In 1990, Quang Tri Customs was separated from Binh Tri Thien Customs, managing the areas of Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces. In 1993, Quang Tri Customs continued to separate, forming Quang Tri Customs and Quang Binh Customs. Quang Tri Customs was renamed Quang Tri Provincial Customs Department, performing the task of customs management in Quang Tri province to date.
In the early stages, import-export business activities were limited, but thanks to positive changes in innovation in local socio-economic development policies and in the customs sector, budget revenue from import-export taxes for the entire period accounted for over 50% of the local budget.
Entering the period 2001 to 2010, the Customs sector strongly implemented the reform, development and modernization. The import-export turnover in this period was approximately 1.2 billion USD, 3 times higher than the period 1990-2001, the state budget collected more than 1.3 trillion VND; detected and handled 11,586 cases of customs law violations, worth 107 billion VND.
In particular, in the 2020-2024 period, the work of preventing and combating smuggling, trade fraud and drug prevention and control achieved many outstanding results.
For example, in 2022, the Quang Tri Provincial Customs Department took the lead in fighting and successfully cracking down on a special case, arresting 8 heroin cakes transported on a passenger bus at the Lao Bao International Border Gate, and continuing to coordinate with functional forces to investigate and arrest 2 more subjects and 2 kg of crystal meth in Ho Chi Minh City. In 2024, the Drug Prevention and Control Team, Quang Tri Provincial Customs Department established a special case, coordinated with other forces to successfully crack down on a transnational drug ring, arresting 9 subjects of Lao nationality, and seizing evidence of 100 kg of crystal meth...
With outstanding achievements in the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and drug prevention and control in 2024, at the ceremony, the First Class Feat Medal was awarded to the Drug Control and Prevention Team, Quang Tri Provincial Customs Department and the Second Class Feat Medal to Mr. Tran Duy Linh - Captain of the Drug Control and Prevention Team, Quang Tri Provincial Customs Department.
The Organizing Committee also held a ceremony to commend the Quang Tri Provincial Customs Department, Lao Bao Border Gate Customs Branch, Drug Control Team, La Lay Border Gate Customs Branch and a number of individuals with outstanding achievements in the period 2020 - 2024.
