Lam Hoa Commune (Minh Hoa District, Quang Binh Province) is located in the western mountainous area of the province. There are 312 households with 1,315 people. Of which, ethnic minorities (EM) have 159 households with 632 people.
Here, people's lives are still difficult, the majority are Ma Lieng people, belonging to the Chut ethnic group, mainly living in Ke village, Cao village and Chuoi village.
According to the People's Committee of Lam Hoa commune, by the end of 2023, the locality had 156 poor households, accounting for 50%. Of which, there were 129 poor ethnic minority households, accounting for 81.13% of the total number of ethnic minority households.
Lam Hoa commune has received investment capital from the national target program (NTP) on socio-economic development (SEDP) in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the 2021-2030 period of more than 35 billion VND and over 14 billion VND in public capital.
The locality has implemented projects and sub-projects under the program such as supporting people in building livelihood models, investing in developing culture, education, health care, building and upgrading many civil works, etc.
Mr. Ho Van That (in Ke village, Lam Hoa commune) said that since the multi-purpose plows, tillers and water storage tanks were brought to the people, agricultural production has become less difficult, eliminating the need to use buffalo, cows or people to increase labor productivity.
The locality also established a dossier to allocate forests to the community, supported people in implementing pig and bamboo rat breeding models, and built model gardens...
Strive to have 40% poor households
The program has allocated nearly 2.5 billion VND for health and family to support nutrition for pregnant mothers before, during and after giving birth; support ethnic minority women in difficult circumstances to give birth in accordance with population policy; support school milk for ethnic minority children under 5 years old in 3 ethnic minority villages; support funding to purchase equipment for health stations.
The implementation of projects and sub-projects has helped improve people's spiritual life and contributed to changing the face of the countryside.
Build 2 community houses in Ke village and Chuoi village so that people have a place for community activities, to bond and strengthen solidarity; provide tables and chairs, purchase equipment for community houses of 3 ethnic minority villages and Tien Phong village so that people can meet, participate in cultural and sports activities...
Thanks to the support of the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in the Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Regions, many new concrete roads in the village have replaced dirt roads, making it easier for people to travel.
The system of schools, classrooms, medical stations, and community centers has been invested in and built to meet the learning and living needs of the people.
Nguyen Huu Tam, Principal of Lam Hoa Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, said that the program helps the school build and renovate facilities and teaching and learning equipment; at the same time, it supports students in terms of health and nutrition to improve their health and physical fitness.
